Hammertime night market

Night Market has finally arrived in Ontario as we countdown the end of the summer season. I always marked this event in my yearly calendar as I finally get my stinky tofu cravings and other incredible street food. Credit goes to the Hamilton Night Market Team for putting this together to have local business showcases their phenomenal dishes. The place was very spacious, and the event organizer did a great job in putting this together. Markham is my usual go-to for this event, but knowing Hamilton has been doing this year for a couple of years, I had to check it out. The event was in Baypark Fronk, which was very spacious, but parking was limited.

I was excited to come to this event, spending the outdoors with family while trying out dishes and new restaurants. I was ready to feast when I walked into the event. I usually have a list of things to try when I attend night market like the Stinky Tofu, Durian, Oyster Pancakes. With the limited of food stalls, I just went with the flow.

Our first order was Toro's Grilled Plate ($20). The plate has an assortment of grilled meats that was just perfect on a hot summer day. The slow-cooked roasted meat cooked beautifully. It has that smoky taste and very chewy grilled meats. I would say Toro Grill was everyone's favourite food stall on this visit.

Noi Oysters was offering on the spot Pad Thai ($12). It was fun seeing the chef cook saute all these fresh ingredients to make a delicious pad thai. It was a good bowl of Pad Thai, but the seasoning was a bit short. I would like to see more herbs on this dish, but that's my opinion. The next stall was offering Thai Iced Tea ($7). What strikes me is that they were putting it in a plastic bag. Having a drink in a plastic bag reminds me of the Philippines, walk around with a drink in a plastic bag.

Our next food stall was a steam dumpling place (3 for $10). You have to love seeing freshly wrapped buns that are cook in front of you. It was a delicious cooked bun with a crispy bottom and soft top. It also had a generous filling that was very succulent. The place was also offering Leek pancakes that I would say drool-worthy. A must-have in Night Market is the Grilled Oysters on a half shell (3 for $20).

Our last stop was the grilled squid skewers ($15 or 2 for $25). The skewers were okay with nicely cook grilled squid pieces. Noting the event was organized in a short amount of time, and first in Ontario. This year's Night Market was a great visit, and it was a snippet for next year's Night Market. This event also gave me the idea that we're almost back to normalcy. You can say I look forward to Hamiltons Night Market and what vendors will be participating in 2022.
