YOU, ME + SARA (+ CHEF MARY) Review

Sara's four-course meal gives you the feeling that you're in a restaurant while being in the comfort of your own home. The restaurant posted on their social media about an initiative they've recently launched, featuring different Toronto chefs providing a biweekly prix fixe menu to enjoy at home. At first glance, Chef Mary's offering was so good that it made me change my original meal plans on a Friday night. Ordering the four-course meal through the website was simple and easy. I applaud the chef for providing a well-constructed method of how to prepare each course at home. Preparing these course while sipping on a cocktail made with lychee, strawberry, guava, lime and rum made the entire experience even more fun.

The King Salmon Ceviche was one of the dishes I had been looking forward to trying. It was a light, citrusy and well-marinated king salmon. The chicharron provided a nice crunch to this starter and the airy compressed cucumber added a pop of colour to the dish. The Sara Chopped Salad is a classic item. The amazing dressing topped with wasabi peas gave you that much-needed crunch when eating the salad.

The Shishito Peppers had a beautiful char and was seasoned with chilli lime salt and lime juice. Shishito Peppers are a must-order item when available on the menu. Next up, Tamarind Glazed Chicken Skewers. The chicken skewers were nicely cooked and the green papaya salad was a delicious pairing. This plate is similar to a Filipino meal, where the papaya salad cuts the sweetness of the barbeque, and pairs with white rice.

The next course was Grilled Maitake Mushrooms with Eggplant and Puffed Rice. This dish is a perfect complement to the Miso Black Cod. I decided to put it on a separate plate, just like how it was packaged from the restaurant. This full-bodied dish is completed by the earthy taste from the Maitake Mushroom mixed with the eggplant. Don't forget the beautifully cooked Miso Cod that was exceptionally flaky and delicious.

The Caramel Apple Cake was a well-baked cake and the toasted sesame milk tea was the perfect end to the meal. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of this dish as I had been waiting to dig in to this dessert! Overall, it a very thought-out prix fixe meal by the chef. I would love to have this again when it's safe to dine-in at this restaurant. I love how every dish has a crunch component and a different flavour profile that keeps your taste buds intrigued and wanting more.
