My parents owned a Filipino restaurant and now a bakery in Mississauga. I became interested in the culinary world growing up but moreover learning hard work. I used to afterschool from elementary school to high school help out at the store. The ingredients used to marinate meats or create stews to create dishes that customers come back to daily. My friends and I sometimes talk about that pork bbq or lumpia shanghai my parents used to make from scratch.
I thought I would follow their steps, but I saw cooking as something else. I saw cooking as a hobby instead.

An activity to learn different produce and meats and self-taught culinary techniques to put together lovely meals for my family and friends. I find that my siblings and I have a unique form of art. From baking, film and art while mine is cooking. Cooking I'm able to center my attention into putting a lovely plate.
I do find that this is an expensive hobby as there is a lot of trial and errors. A lot of research, writing recipes and executing the dish. The food I create is base on a food craving or an idea I thought of while working my 9-5 job. I also get ideas from a co-worker of mine who tells me the lovely dishes she makes. Recently inspired me to make homemade Yorkshire pudding.
A collection of homemade dishes that I have made in the past. Such as my parent's spring roll recipe. Or the day I used a variety of mushrooms to make mushroom risotto and mushroom soup with garlic bread with mushroom and a mushroom taco.
I do hope in the future I'll create a sub-post of meals that inspire me to make or put together for family meal day.
