Fries and Sauce - Comfort Food

When I think of comfort food, I think of poutine. A dish consisting of freshly deep-fried cut fries, hot gravy and cheese. A meal perfect after a night of drinking, or something you can have every day for the most part on cold days. In my opinion, poutine is one of the best late-night meal with that chewy or melted cheese over that hot gravy and fries. A type of food you have while having a great conversation. Or you know when you're drunk.

Recently, I've been reminiscing about a Quebec City restaurant Poutineville. Sheppard's Pie, Souvlaki, or Philly Cheese are just the many varieties this restaurant offers. My favourite is their red wine gravy as the amount of depth in flavour and goes well with curds and fries.

In light of this, I started touring around the cities for the masterpiece of poutine. The signature poutine that has character and not your average poutine. A plate of fries and sauce that will blow your mind and give kudos to the chef for this idea. My perspective of this project is to find over the top poutine that catches your eye.

Shawarma Poutine

Chris Jerk

2570 Birchmount Rd, Scarborough

Poutine that is out of the ordinary. You'll be amazed not just because of the portion size but the smell of it. The melted cheese becomes loose with your fork and a generous portion of chicken. A gravy that compliments well with the cheese and fries. The flavour of the poutine gravy had a unique smoky taste.

Smoked BBQ Frites

Toboggan Brewing

585 Richmond St, London

Stumble upon this creative plate that had crispy fries with a generous amount of beef brisket meat. The beef brisket was tender, and that texas BBQ just on point for this dish. This dish was a great plate of food to share while having a pint. You can also choose different sauces and meat. I would recommend this combination.

Photine Dac Biet

DZO Viet Eatery

308 Dundas St W, Toronto

A dish that you can't put your fork down with all that flavour bursting at you. A gravy made out of the restaurant's pho broth with all topping you put on a pho bowl. Bean Sprouts, Basil and hoisin sauce. Then you have a generous amount of sliced quality beef with some shredded cheese. I recommend mixing it well to get that full pho poutine experience.

Crab Poutine

The Ship

23 Augusta St, Hamilton

The amount of crab meat on that poutine was ridiculous. It was like every bite there was fries, sauce and crab meat. The bacon and clam chowder is such a great idea. It gave a unique look for poutine with creamy sauce and a rich taste. I can say this is my official seafood poutine.
